“We found ourselves on an enchanted coastline, capturing every memory and seizing all opportunities for adventure.”
March 4th, 2020 was the most magical day of our lives. This day closed one chapter of our adventurous love story (More on “Our Story” traveling, surviving long distance, and moving across the country for each other here) and started the next.
A more fairytale-like proposal doesn’t exist. It was perfectly ideal for the adventurous souls that we are.
As frequent Colorado hikers, the journey to hike the Napali Coast in Kaua’i was an experience we had to make happen! I didn’t suspect anything of it. Tanner pre-bought the permits for the hike, had already paid for my “birthday manicure”, and casually gave me a flower for my hair that morning.
He planned the perfect proposal while two of our best friends shared the memory and took a million pictures (so thankful for Josh & Sean). They all had code words for when the view was perfect to stop and get the cameras (and ring !!!) ready.
The morning weather was sunny and bright, so taking a photo facing the epic Hawaiian coastline was an unsuspecting way to distract from the fact that Tanner was already on his knee behind me. I turned around, surprised and overwhelmed with love, as he held out my dream ring (something I hadn’t ever told him about or even thought into much myself) and asked me to marry him.
Obviously, I cried. Like, four times at least.
I’ll never forget his green eyes in that moment. Seeing him down on one knee was a vision I had imagined for so long, and I’m so thankful that it worked out perfectly to his plans. We spent the rest of the day celebrating on beautiful beaches with our best friends and doing what we love— exploring together.
If this weren’t obvious, I undoubtedly said YES, and am thrilled in imagining our future together. I’ll happily spend the rest of my life trying to explain the love that we share.
To Tanner Lyday, my future husband, I can’t wait to marry you.
