Curing the Common Cold

Being sick is the worst– especially when you’re an adult. At least being sick as a kid allows you to skip school and spend a day watching movies in bed. When you’re a working adult, you’re supposed to ignore your constant sniffling and lack of focus because you have bills to pay. One of those lame adulty things we have to deal with (add it to the never-ending list)– wanting to cure your common cold so your life sucks less. Here we are.

I typically have the immune system of a super hero. I’ve never been one to be sick for long, feel anything but energetic even on my darkest days, or have to miss out on anything. However, we’ve experienced a nation-wide frozen force this season, and I am one of the many people who’s immune systems are suffering. Even the best fall down sometimes.

Naturally, I asked my intelligent Instagram friends to send me their out-of-the-box remedies for curing a cold, because we already know I can’t do things the normal way. Here are our findings:

Internal (I’m assuming quicker) Remedies to Take:

  • Emergen-C
  • Wellness Formula
  • Zicam Rapid Melts
  • Bio-K
  • Colloidal Silver

Internal (more natural) Remedies to Eat/Drink:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with Honey
  • Ginger Shot
  • Earl Gray Tea with Lemon Juice and Honey
  • Herbal Tea
  • Spicy Vietnamese Chicken Pho
  • Toast with Honey and Minced Garlic

External Remedies:

  • Exercise
  • Peppermint Essential Oil placed underneath your nose
  • Vick’s VapoRub on your feet under socks when you go to sleep???? Weird but ok
  • Thieves Oil on your feet… guess there’s a pattern here
  • Eucalyptus and/or Methanol Scented Bath

Other Classic Remedies:

  • Get lots of rest, an excuse for more naps
  • Hot soup
  • Drink water
  • Shut out window/door breezes
  • Wash your hands frequently

I’ll be trying all of the above until I don’t feel stuffy anymore. If you’re reading this blog, I assume you’re getting sick as well– hopefully something on this list helps you feel better!

If none of these remedies work for you, you may just need some good, old-fashioned attention from your S.O. or parents. Be sure to complain about headaches & sniffle a little extra so everyone feels bad for you. If you’re convincing enough, they might even make time in their day to go out and get you some treats or flowers. That will make you feel better for sure 😉
