Never Forget

We all remember where we were when the most significant historical event of our lives took place. On September 11th, 2001, I was in a classroom in Poughkeepsie, New York, 86 miles from the attack that broke all of our hearts.

I was fortunate enough not to lose any direct loved ones that day, but had a school full of kids who did. Parents, siblings, friends– too many lives were lost. As New Yorkers, and as citizens of this country, we never really recovered from the tragedy of this day 17 years ago. It may have been a physical attack that took the lives of many, but it sure felt like a very, very personal attack towards us.

We all chose to come together stronger and honor the heroes lost that day. We chose to build ourselves back up, with the lost lives of loved ones as our motivation. We chose to let our freedom stand tall, but we also choose to #NeverForget.

On this Patriot’s Day– let’s remind ourselves of what is precious. The ones we love the most, the promise of today, and the opportunity to dream for the future.

Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you today. Take a moment and really think about the people who give so much to assure we have what we do. Put yourselves in the shoes of heroes who would sacrifice their lives to protect this nation– there are people who will put anything on the line to make sure you see another day.

We will never, ever, ever forget.

New York, my heart is with you today.
